Many nations including Thailand are fighting hard to defeat the pandemic disease, Covid-19.

Thailand has so far more than 934 infected people in the country (last update March 25, 2020) and the situation seems to become worse and worse as the number of infected people is continually increased.

However, the government has announced a couple of updated rules and regulations that are enforced strictly:

  • The grant of a visa on arrival is also temporarily suspended for passport holders of 18 nations; namely, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China (including Taiwan), Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Vanuatu. (March 12, 2020)

  • The government just announced to postpone Songkran Holidays (Thai New Year) aka. Thailand’s water festival in order to avoid a massive spread of Covid-19 due to the movement of people going back to their hometowns. (March 17, 2020)

  • Schools, universities, pubs, bars, cinemas massage and spas as well as entertaining avenues are closed in Bangkok for 2 weeks: from March 18-31, 2020. (March 17, 2020)

How is the daily life in Thailand?

Thai people are quite active in terms of preventing themselves from Covid-19. Here are things you need to know about how Thais react to the situation:

  • Thai people almost always wear a face mask (mostly the hygienic one). It is quite common to wear a mask in the public areas, on a public transportation, at work or at any places that are full of crowds.

  • When showing related symptoms such as having a fever, coughing, and sneezing, you should stay home and work from home otherwise you will be asked to leave. People started to get paranoid.

  • I got back from Vietnam last weekend and there are 90% fewer people than usual at the airport. Thai people avoid taking flights or going to the airport.

  • Even though there has been not yet an official announcement from the Government for the closure of restaurants, many restaurants are empty. Some of them are even closed as it is not worth it to pay the same costs when there is no customer.
