List of 40 Country Names and Languages in Thai

Thai people are always curious where you are actually from. To be able to answer them properly, you should learn country names in Thai.

In this blog post, I created a list of country names as well as languages in Thai. Some of them sounds similar to English ones,  but many of them sound totally different.

I come from …

The most common way to introduce yourself is to tell where you come from. In Thai language you would say:
  • If you break down the sentence to learn word by word,
    • ฉัน (chãn) = I (female speaker, if you are a male speaker you would use ผม ‘põm’)
    • มาจาก (maa-jàak) = come from
    • ประเทศ (prà-têed) = country
If you would like to ask, where are you from, you should say:

I speak … language.

In english you can skip the word ‘language’ when you refer to a language, but in Thai you always have to say ภาษา (paa-sãa) which means ‘language’.
